let’s talk bookish: food and books

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books. It is hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books and Dani @ Literary Lion. It is where different bookish topics are discussed, explained and ruminated. Different opinions are shared and blog hopping is encouraged too.

I joined this book meme because a topic could lead to different answers. It helps me share my thoughts while being educated by others posts too. Aside from this, I get to reflect on topics which interest me. Some people would not agree with my answers but that is okay, each to his own.

Aside from loving books, I love food too. Sometimes, books which describe food or drinks make me hungry. I am very impressed if a writer describes a drink or food really well. The most memorable quote about black coffee for me is from American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

How you want your coffee?” she asked her guests. “Here we take it black as night, sweet as sin.

– American Gods by Neil Gaiman

As for Oreo Cookies, I would always associate it with Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. The Oreo cookie was mentioned so much that it has made an impression on me. Lara Jean would always be top of mind when it comes to characters who bake. Her cookies were what I looked forward while reading her story. She uses baking as a relaxing task. If given the time, I would like to try her recipes.

The Harry Potter series in itself is a gastronomic experience. It starts of with the feasts in the great hall. Also, every time the characters go to Hogsmeade, a different kind of candy or drink is mentioned. I have always wanted to taste butterbeer. At a young age, it left a very mystic impression on me. I tried some but I really wanted to taste the “real” butter beer in universal studios. At the age of 28, I was able to taste it in Universal Japan and I could say that they all taste the same. I don’t have a favorite bookish treat but I am curious about cookie monster’s cookies. He likes it a lot. This makes him the best person to know what is the best cookie recipe.

Food is very universal. It helps us connect with one another. In the past spices were traded back and forth from Asia to Europe. It helped different cultures connect. Food can also be a fusion of west and east. A lot of restaurants are being innovative and mix everything for something better. Like food, books inform readers of different cultures. It educates and makes us curious what is on the other side of the border.

Food and books are topics which anyone can relate.

Question: What are your favorite bookish treats?

Thank you for reading!

  1. Lara Jean baking always made my mouth water. She’s the sort of person who bakes sweets worthy of Instagram and Pintrest. I would love to taste something she made. I don’t think I would dare to try baking them myself though!
