SYNOPSIS

The story is supposed to be over.

Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after…

So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch?

What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light…

That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West.

They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place…

With Wayward Son, Rainbow Rowell has written a book for everyone who ever wondered what happened to the Chosen One after he saved the day. And a book for everyone who was ever more curious about the second kiss than the first. It’s another helping of sour cherry scones with an absolutely decadent amount of butter.

Come on, Simon Snow. Your hero’s journey might be over – but your life has just begun.

BOOK REVIEW:

Yes, in all honesty I think that Carry On should have been a stand alone. At first, I did like the idea of a sequel but I did not take into consideration that I might not enjoy it. Anyways, it is here and I read it but did I enjoy it? No. Was it a book I looked forward to? Yes, definitely since Baz and Simon were adorable. Their push and pull relationship was a treat to read. Did I think that it would not be up to my expectations? No, because I trusted that everything would be up to my expectations. But in the end, I gave a four hearts rating since (in all honestly) it was not up to par with my expectations.

This is story is about the after story of the chosen one and it’s a depressing one.I have a lot of misgivings about it and i’m having second thoughts on reading the third book. First of is that I hated that both Simon and Baz had communication problems. It was also selfish for Simon expecting a lot from Baz and then being depressed because he feels he is not enough for Baz. I expected Simon to bounce back from his problems and improve himself in any way he can. It seems that after everything that happened in Carry On, the all characters are running away from their problems. Aside from Simon being depressed, Agatha went to America. Then Simon and Baz not talking about their relationship problems. At least for Penelope, she got to face her long distance boyfriend, even if it did not go as planned.

I did like the idea of Baz, Simon and Penelope having a joy rid in America. It is a change of scenery which Simon needed. The cover is also a shocking yellow and it goes well in my book shelf. I like that the story did show a different side to a relationship. It will not always be on the flowery path but with patience, understanding and love everything will come full circle. I enjoyed reading Carry On more because it was entertaining compared to this sequel. Wayward Son was more serious than what I expected. Although, I gave it a four hearts rating which is still high, it is not as high as the first book. As for reading the next book, I’m still having second thoughts on reading it. Overall, I did not enjoy it as much as I was expecting but the relationship between Baz and Simon is more real than ever.
